Making Costumes For Halloween

Making costumes for Halloween? There's more than one way to skin this cat!

If you've got lots of kids to outfit for Halloween, or the chosen costume is a bit out of your price range, a fun and economical alternative is making costumes for Halloween. What if you're not a seamstress or don't even have a sewing machine? You can still make costumes for Halloween. It all comes down to how you define 'make'. Just as you can bake a cake from scratch or whip one together with a mix, in both cases, you made a cake. So it is with making Halloween costumes. Let's take a look at your options.
Sewing a Halloween costume yourself is time-consuming, but on the other hand has its rewards. The costume is super customizable as you can choose any fabrics or colors you like. People who enjoy sewing, and have the time, usually derive pleasure from the endeavor.
However, most of have schedules that would try the patience of a Saint and simply don't have the time for lengthy projects. The solution? Go take a look at second-hand and Thrift clothing shops for your basic ingredients. For example, if you need to make a Princess costume, look in the formal wear sections for a flower girl type of dress or a prom dress. Look at shoes, too, which might enhance the costume. Making costumes for Halloween from these clothes shop finds make it a piece of cake, so to speak. No matter what your costume needs, from a Pirate to a pumpkin, you'll find the basic clothes right there.
Online vintage clothing stores are another possibility. These shops also typically offer accessory items, such as hats and costume jewelry. Check eBay for things like tiaras, wands, fake weapons and other such props.
Get right over to the fabric shop and look in the notions section for lace, ribbons, trims, fringes, tassels, buttons, appliques, collars and other such custom attachments. Ribbons, silk roses and beads can do a lot to decorate a shoe. Let the kids pick their favorites.
Browse the fabrics for designs and fabrics from which you might make a belt, sash, veil or whatever the costume requires for authenticity. Check the formal wear section for gauzy fabrics you can use for veils. Just an eighth of a yard of gold lame makes a lovely sash for a dress. Check out the felts for Robin Hood's tunic or hat. You can gather everything you need to complete the costume.
If you haven't got one, pick up a glue gun and a supply of glue sticks. That's all you need to attach the decorations.
Making costumes for Halloween can be as easy as that! You can be sure your kids will treasure your homemade Halloween costume for years to come. It is, after all, a one-of-a-kind costume! Original, inexpensive and fun for all.

Medieval Halloween Costume Party

Throw a Medieval Halloween costume party for a new romantic twist every party-goer enjoys!

Halloween is one of the most popular holiday party events of the year. Perhaps the attraction is that, as with Mardi Gras, you can dress up in elaborate costumes and pretend, for that evening, to be some intriguing figure of the past. Here's a great theme party idea for all of you Halloween hosts out there. Try something different this year. Throw a Medieval Halloween costume party your guests will not soon forget. Besides, imagine the surprise on the neighborhood trick-or-treaters' faces when you open the door to offer up your basket of treats!
The Medieval period is often thought to be a romantic period where ladies wore long, flowing gowns of sumptuous materials and men were their Knights in shining armor. The lady of the castle kept an ample medicinal garden to serve the villagers and her household. While this may not be the whole picture of life in Medieval times, it does comprise the positive images of the time.
Here's how to plan and stage your magnificent Medieval Halloween costume party. You'll need proper invitations, table settings that give the flavor of the authentic Medieval table, fun props, a few Medieval recipes (adapted to today's ingredients) and ales and wines befitting the occasion. Your guests do the rest in their glorious costumes. Perhaps not surprisingly, men often enjoy a chance to be the knight of your dreams, as this theme provides a venue in which to be both manly and romantic.
For invitations, you can take one of two tacks. You can use the parchment and calligraphy option, or put a little special scary Halloween effect in place. Use the parchment to print your request for the pleasure of your guest's company in the old cut-out letter ransom format. A well done invitation becomes a party favor too!
Take the time to locate a few local and online costume rental shops to give your guests some leads on attire.
Medieval table settings were simple, but specific to the etiquette of the times. Long wooden plates and plain ceramic plates and bowls were commonly used. One fun and authentic alternative is to form plates of long bread loaves, halved lengthwise. Goblets for wine and ceramic ale cups were the norm. Knives and spoons only, please. The fork was not yet in use!
Medieval props are abundant online, designed to suit every budget. Several large candles, placed around and above diners, is a must for a Medieval Halloween costume party success.
Look at library recipe books or online Medieval cuisine and choose a few authentic dishes. One highly recommended entree is roast beef with cinnamon gravy – delicious! Contemporary food can certainly round out your Medieval menu. Wrap it up with your choice of ales and wines.
The Medieval Halloween costume party theme is guaranteed to be a hit. Oh, don't forget to spread a few cobwebs around the dining area, for authenticity's sake!

Homemade Halloween Costumes For Kids

Easy, original, and awesome homemade Halloween costumes for kids!

On Halloween, a kid's imagination is brightly lit with fantasies of dressing up as a pirate, a la Brad Pitt, or perhaps the loveliest little angel. This second most popular holiday of the year gives every kid a chance to fantasize and, be, for that one night a hero, cowgirl, witch, or anything that suits their fantasy.
While there are plenty of shops and discount stores you can shop for ready made costumes, there are two disadvantages to off-the-rack costumes over the homemade Halloween costumes for kids. First, if the kids are going trick or treating and your child sees every other girl in her costume, she may feel slightly deflated. Homemade Halloween costumes for kids are one of a kind. Second, making Halloween costumes is cheaper than buying.
So, what if you're not a seamstress? No problem. In this case, get a simple ready made costume. For girls, you can embellish with feathers, sequins, beads, lace, flowers and such lavishness. For boys, fancy trims enhancing the realistic Pirate image (or super hero or Fireman), makes this costume unique. How about a scarf for his bandanna? Now, all you need is a glue gun and you're good to go. Craft, thrift and fabric stores are great places to find these special add-ons.
Some younger kids know right off the bat who or what they want to be on Halloween. If your child can't decide, help them through their general costume themes, such as movie or cartoon characters. You can probably make suggestions when you have a good idea whether they'd rather be funny, pretty or scary.
As kids get older, their appreciation for unusual and perhaps a tad more bizarre Halloween costumes grows. Sometimes groups of teens will decide to all wear the same costume to make a real statement as they pluck their loot from your Halloween basket. Let them decide (within your ethical values) on their costume. That and the candy is the whole fun of Halloween!
Once your child has decided on the costume, it's time to shop. If you are an experienced seamstress, you may not even need a pattern, for, say a ghost! Attaching those neon-glow stars and planets will make your ghost highly visible and add a mysterious glow, enhancing the costume.
Whether you choose to buy or make your kids Halloween costume, be sure the fabric is fire-retardant, for safety's sake. The most successful homemade Halloween costumes for kids are those made with the add-ons they choose, not you. Talk about original!
Perhaps the best reason in favor of homemade Halloween costumes for kids is that you get to spend some time, enjoying and indulging your kid's fantasies.

Halloween Yard Decorations

There are some neighborhoods that come alive for the Halloween season, and some that remain relatively dark. If you are on one of the streets that seems to become an entirely different place each year, you may want to get in on the action. One of the best ways to get in on the fun is to have some interesting Halloween yard decorations that you can use from year to year. Some many only last one season, but others can be put away to be used time and time again. No matter what your personality, there is something fun out there just for you.
When you want to have a cemetery for your Halloween yard decorations, you are in luck. There are tons of way to do this, and they no longer have to look so cheesy - though there is nothing wrong with that look if that is what you want to go with for your lawn. Many of the new styles of these popular Halloween yard decorations look so real that you may not be able to tell the difference until you get right up to them for a close inspection. They come with some very funny sayings at times, so you can go spooky and funny at the same time.
If you want to go with something lighter for your Halloween yard decorations, as in things your children will love at a younger age, you can find a variety of blow up decorations like witches, pumpkins, and some other interesting items. Some of these are lit up from the inside, and some come with a wind machine that allows them to blow in the breeze for a very cool effect. These Halloween yard decorations are much like the ones you see at Christmas that feature various Christmas characters and themes.
You can also come up with some great designs on your own by buying odd Halloween yard decorations and coming up with your own layout. You can find spooky trees that you can light up, funky fences to have around your cemetery, and perhaps some skulls, webs, and pumpkins to go with them. You can use fog machines to add a very eerie feeling to the entire set up, and don’t forget the sound effects. You may have the yard that all the kids are talking about, and can’t wait to see the next year and the year after that.

Halloween Party Food

A mix of gross and yummy Halloween party foods for kids

Halloween is a great holiday for kids. They get to dress up as whomever – or whatever – showing off their costumes at school, which isn't conducive to much serious school work, but hey, it's Halloween! Then there's an evening of trick or treating to look forward to as well. Throwing a Halloween party for the kids is the icing on the cake. So, as Mom or teacher, what is appropriate food for this spooky holiday party occasion? Here are a few ideas for Halloween party foods that are easy to fix and guaranteed to produce giggles and grossed-out expressions.
You want to have a mix of dishes, some clearly cute and edible, with others that have the kids staring in disbelief and then daring one another to eat them. The gross ones are best if they taste good. Otherwise, you'll end up with wasted food.
First, we'll tackle the cute Halloween party foods you use to lure the kids to the buffet. Some Halloween paper plates and napkins adds a festive look.
To a batch of sugar cookie dough, add red and yellow food coloring, drop by drop, until a proper shade of pumpkin is achieved. Use yellow icing to decorate the faces.
If you don't have a divided bowl, with at least three compartments, pick one up at a dollar type store. Make a big batch of popcorn and melt some butter in the microwave. Divide in three portions and use food coloring to tint one bright yellow, one orange and the last black. Use red, green and blue food coloring to make black. You may be surprised to see the black popcorn disappear first. So this is one-third yucky, but overall cute.
Spider Brownies are cute, creepy and delicious. Cute the brownies into squares, squeeze a circle of white icing in the center and plop a plastic spider or other creepy crawler from the party store right on top of the icing. The bugs can serve as party favors too.
Now on to some of the gross Halloween party food.
To a gallon of milk, add sufficient green food color to produce a disgusting color. Serve in clear plastic glasses for maximum effect.
Normally called deviled eggs, you can use a few tricks to make Be-deviled eyeballs. Cut your eggs in half, scoop out the yolks and set aside. Dip the whites briefly in a bowl of food coloring red water. Mash the yolks, then turn them an unseemly green. Alternatively, you can leave the yolks yellow and fill the eggs. Then, use red coloring and a toothpick to swirl into a bloodshot look. You can use thin slices of celery for the pupils. Ewww!
A package of lady finger cookies are easily made into a ghoulish treat. Cut the ends off each 'finger' and dip each in some red gel icing, arranging severed pieces closely, but not together!
These Halloween party foods are a real scream!

Making Gift Baskets

A short primer on making gift baskets

Gift baskets make a thoughtful, personalized gift suitable for just about any occasion. Although you can purchase ready-made gift baskets, it can be fun to make gift baskets filled with goodies you know the recipient enjoys. Your giftee will be flattered to find that you took the time and exercised your creative side to customize this present.

You may have thought that making gift baskets was a task for the professionals, but once you put your mind to your project, you'll be delighted to find your finished gift is both lovely and personal.

Before you go looking for a basket, decide on the contents. It need not necessarily be the traditional food basket. Let's say you're making a gift basket for your teenage niece's birthday. Teenage girls love costume jewelry, nail kits, bubble bath and beauty products. Just fill that basket with individual items like this and you'll be her favorite aunt. If you're making a gift basket for your Grandma, who loves to knit, get an assortment of fancy yarns. What you fill your basket with will determine the size basket you will need.

You should have no trouble finding a suitable basket. Department and discount stores, drugstores and garden shops are just several of the places to find the perfect basket.

A nice lining material for your basket makes your gift just a bit more elegant. Confetti, raffia, tissue paper, colored cellophane and fabric or lace all work well. Suit your choice to the contents, basket and your giftee's taste.

If the basket you choose has handles or a loose weave, some pretty ribbon woven through or tied makes your basket more decorative. A visit to the crafts store yields many other decorating possibilities to make your gift a knockout. Dried and artificial flowers, little bird ornaments and strings of battery-powered tiny lights are just some of the good ideas you'll run across. Party supply shops are another good resource. They stock coordinated items such as tissue, balloons, ribbons and party favor items that can double as a basket decoration. With a coordinated theme basket, a matching place card can be tied to the basket as a gift card.

Take your time arranging your decorations. There are lots of ways to combine your decorative materials. When you're happy with the presentation, fill your basket. You may find you have leftover decorating materials, but they can always be saved for when you're making gift baskets for someone else, which will surely be soon. You're an expert now.

Throwing a shindig is intimidating to me to say the least, with so many preparations and details to keep track of throughout the process. The very idea of a whole crowd of folks in my home is enough to leave me running for the Tylenol! However, I have found the secret of hosting the best bashes on the block -- in the form of party planning tips that I have found right on the Internet.

There is plenty of great information online that helped me schedule out my celebration, with the best party planning tips to keep my entertaining efforts as stress free as possible. For example, I learned that a lot of yummy appetizers and desserts can be made ahead and frozen until the big day -- great advice for the hurried hostess!

When it comes to sending out the invitations, etiquette begins to come into play. I couldn't remember the proper way to address invitations, how to let my guests know that kids are welcome, or the wording to alert invitees to the appropriate dress code. Well, it's all laid out on a number of fantastic websites that offer useful party planning tips in addition to supplies and decorations. Talk about one-stop shopping!

Another great feature of websites offering party planning tips was the ability to browse the pages for recipes (like those make-ahead desserts!) and games that would keep my guests laughing. How about ideas for favors and decorations? I discovered those too, including advice on how to put together themed events, birthday parties, anniversaries, and more.

If I am preparing for a really big night with many guests and tons of food and entertainment, I would probably want to hire a professional who specializes in party planning tips to make my job much easier. I have found coordinators who will help me plan a menu, put together entertainment, and decorate my house to any theme under the sun. And all I have to do is sit back and enjoy the action! Gift Baskets For Women

There are times when choosing the right gifts is hard, but one of the easiest types you can get is when you are going to shop for a woman. Many men would scoff if they heard me saying that, but I think getting gift baskets for women is one of the easiest shopping endeavors that you can undertake. This is because there are many things that appeal to almost all women, and because the variety out there is huge and almost endless. You may find that of all of the types of baskets that you can find out there, you are going to find the biggest selection when you look for ones for women.

There are always exceptions, but most women love things that smell good. Their personality will determine what those things are, however. Many love candles and scented lotions, but not all women use these very often. They probably do love things that are made to make their homes smell good in one way or another. You know the type of women with which you are dealing, so you can find gift baskets for women that are tailored to their wants and needs, and they are going to be very easy to find.

No matter who you are, you want to relax. That means finding gift baskets for women that have to do with relaxation are almost always going to be a hit. You can find baskets that offer a leisure activity like going to the movies, or a day on the golf course. Just remember, however, there are some golfers that do not consider golfing relaxing. Think of the things that woman loves to do and what makes her feel refreshed when choosing. Some many even appreciate a basket full of things that will offer them some peace and serenity when they go to take a bath. It can be that simple.

You can make up your own gift baskets for women, or you can buy them already made. Making them on your own is not always easy, and can be time consuming. You don’t have to make them on your own to get something truly personal. There are web sites that sell general types of baskets, but many will make one tailored to your exact specifications. Even better, they can deliver them to your woman friend on a certain day. That is great when someone does not live right next door but you want the gift to be on time.

Chocolate Gift Baskets

The universally perfect gift: chocolate gift baskets

Is there someone out there who doesn't love chocolate? Granted, there are a few who don't swoon at the thought, but this demographic largely represents people who are allergic to the substance! Chocolate attains the status of sinful to those in a constant battle with added and unwanted pounds. However, you've got to indulge yourself once in a while. After all, you only live once, and a life bereft of the joys of chocolate is simply not complete. So, next time you're racking your brain for ideas for a gift, think chocolate gift baskets. Naturally, you must be sensitive to your recipient's issues. If he or she is constantly dieting, this may not be the kindest gift. Otherwise, a chocolate gift basket is the gift of choice!

If you're already a connoisseur of this delectable bean, you know where to begin your search for a truly gourmet product. If not, here are a few pointers to guide you in your selection.

If you enjoy chocolate, but have no detailed knowledge of the subject, you may puzzle over the new proliferation in chocolate bars, with labels proudly declaring cacao content. You may have noticed these large bars of chocolate, stating 60% or 70% and even 80% cacao content. The higher the percentage of cacao content, the more bittersweet the flavor. As an admitted and dedicated chocolate freak, I can tell you that 70% is my limit of snacking unctuousness. Beyond that, such chocolate belongs inside a croissant in delicate amounts.

So when you're shopping for a chocolate gift basket, you want to look for cacao content as a signal of ecstasy for the consumer. However, there's much more to a heavenly chocolate experience.

There's a good reason that Godiva and a number of other world famous chocolates have earned their righteous place in the world of chocolate divinity. For example, Belgian chocolatiers are so fanatical about their production methods, the best chocolatiers employ a heated truck delivery system whereby the chocolate is tempered only once, on its travel to the manufacturer. Chocolate which is tempered more than once is considered to be inferior.

French and Swiss chocolates are also world renowned. Europeans love chocolate and are quite persnickety about their chocolate indulgences. When looking for a chocolate gift basket, you just can't go wrong with a choice from a European vendor. If your giftee likes chocolate, they'll adore you for your discriminating choice from this market.

Now let's get down to the practical value of a chocolate gift basket. Did you know that chocolate contains antioxidants? Yes, it's true. In sufficient quantity, your chocolate gift basket can help ward off cancer! The problem is that you'd need to eat pounds and pounds to make a case for the health benefits. It's a nice thought, though a bit far fetched.

Graduation Party Supplies

Graduation Party Supplies that Create a Memorable Event

My oldest son is in the esteemed class of 2008, so I am already on the hunt for items to celebrate his big day. After spending an entire afternoon driving and shopping and driving again, I realized that the old fashioned-way of hitting the mall simply wasn't going to cut it for this event. Granted, I found several aisles of graduation party supplies -- but they featured the same tired themes over and over again, with no sense of creativity or originality.
Of course, I wasn't going to let that get in the way of throwing a big bash to celebrate my son's accomplishments. Instead, I just started searching for graduation party supplies online, and before long, I found exactly what I wanted. How easy to simply hunker down at my laptop and click on the sites that looked interesting. How fun to confer with my son when I found graduation party supplies that looked enticing, complete with table decorations, paper goods, and favors for all the guests. How convenient to shop when the time was right for me instead of waiting for the stores to open in the morning.
Shopping for my son's graduation party supplies online allowed me to have a wider selection of merchandise to choose from, and better prices as well. I was able to compare costs at numerous retailers in a single session without wearing myself out, which was a welcome change from how my shopping trips usually go down.
Anyway, I couldn't believe the wonderful array of colors and patterns of graduation party supplies that I found -- from the basic "Congratulations Class of 2008!" designs to goods that sported individual school colors and plenty of novelty items to add personal flair. From pre-printed invitations to personalized thank you notes, I was able to purchase everything I needed to observe this important milestone in style.
I also discovered plenty of great ideas for throwing the end of school bash in a manner befitting my graduate. Some of the websites I browsed offered lots of awesome tips for games, music, and more. A few of these celebrations actually had a method to the madness, like a luau or casino theme that would tie the whole night together. The hardest part for my son was choosing the graduation party supplies he liked best; after all, this was the last big hurrah that everyone would remember from high school!
After plenty of browsing, my son and I finally settled on the graduation party supplies that we would use for his big day, and we even purchased a keepsake book for all of his friends to autograph and a coordinating picture frame to keep a photo commemorating the event. All of it -- the decorations, paper goods, favors, and even wrapping paper -- was found online and sent right to our front door, which made for the easiest planning ever. Forget the "Pomp and Circumstance"; convenience and ease is the best way to go!

Hosting a Bridal Shower

Hosting a bridal shower she'll remember forever!

Some cultural traditions get so worn, with the same old agendas. The bridal shower is one such tradition. It's kind of like a birthday party where the kids play pin the tail on the donkey. The traditional activities get worn out. Everyone who receives an invitation feels they must just buck up for the sake of the bride and participate graciously. This is a shame, because your wedding is such a joyous occasion. A bridal shower shouldn't be relegated to a paint-by-numbers affair. Here are some imaginative ways to host a bridal shower that walks the talk.

If you're going to be hosting a bridal shower, you want the bride's party to be memorable, to stand out as a genuine celebration she won't forget. This calls for some updating on the usual bridal shower activities. Of course, you want all of the guests to feel comfortable and be truly entertained.

You'll want to have food that's munchable, buffet style so that everyone can grab a bite in between chatting. A sit-down style dinner tends to add a formal note that's not conducive to partying. Plan a menu that consists of exotic appetizers that everyone can sample at their leisure. Empanadas, dolmades, stuffed mushrooms, Coquilles San Jacque and crab cakes will satisfy the most discerning appetite. Have a good supply of small paper plates to encourage guests to taste here and there.

If you're hosting a bridal shower, you probably know the bride well. What rocks her world? Is she an extrovert? What's her favorite music? Try a Karaoke style entertainment theme. Let it all hang out. Everyone will join in. If she's the introverted and shy type, don't embarrass her with activities like this. Scale your entertainment to suit your guest of honor. For example, if she's the poetic type, have your guests present her with gifts of hand written romantic poems and a nice leather journal to keep them.

Hosting a bridal shower takes imagination, at least if it's to stand out in her memories. As for gifts, try to think outside the box. She'll probably receive more toasters and blankets than she can use. Again, think of her personal interests and the romantic aspects of her coming marriage. If she's a music freak, organize a gift registry of your own with your guests. She'll love a collection of CDs to enjoy on her honeymoon. If this couple lives to scuba dive, organize a registry of scuba diving gear and paraphernalia. Take up a collection to fund a mini-getaway.

When hosting a bridal shower, the bottom line is that you want to truly honor the bride and make sure everyone has fun, according to the bride's dreams. This party happens once in a lifetime.

Kids Party Favors

Choosing Kids Party Favors

There is nothing quite as exciting to a child than their own birthday party. Though we tend to downplay our age as we get older, we get really excited about turning five, six, ten, sixteen, and even eighteen. When you are planning your kids party, you do want to make it all that they want, though that is not always possible. One thing you can do well is to choose the best kids party favors that you can find based on a few different things that you should take into consideration.
The biggest consideration with kids party favors is the age of the kids. This will mean that you have to think about safety when you have younger kids. You don’t want to get anything that they could eat, swallow, or otherwise choke on. If you are dealing with children under the age of five or six, you can get kids party favors that are of the latest children’s show, or you can just go with things that go with the theme of your party. Think about things that make some noise, are brightly colored, and that have some sort of value when it comes to playing games together.
For older children, you do have to put a bit more thought into your kids party favors. You may not have to worry as much about something being a chocking hazard, but you do have to worry about things that might break and cause cuts. Children that are five to ten years old may be very hard on the party favors for kids that you pick, and that means getting some things that are durable. They don’t have to last forever, but something that won’t break before the party is over is always a good choice. In this case, you can find something that goes with your party theme and all will be well.

Children older than ten are going to be a bit harder to buy for when it comes to party favors for kids. You have to think about the latest trends when buying. What is great, however, is that you can always just ask your child what they think would be a very cool type of favor. They may already have something in mind. If you don’t know, and your child doesn’t seem to know, you can always get gift certificates for kids party favors. You won’t want to spend much on them, but you can find something that works if you think about it a little bit.

Tips For Fun Bachelorette Party

Getting married to the man of your dreams happens just once in a lifetime, at least one can only hope. That means that friends are going to want to do things with you before you tie the knot. Though being single and married are not always too entirely different - with the exception of the dating detail - these rites of passage are still popular today. Men have their parties, and everyone knows about them, but not everyone thinks about the bachelorette party that many women love to do for their friends when they marry.
What each group of friends choose to do for the bachelorette party will depend on who they are and what they have always liked to do. The traditional stripper party is not always what they choose, and actually, these are becoming more and more uncommon. Instead, women choose to do what they love the most, and what reminds them of why their friendships are so special. This means that naked men may not be involved in any way.
One of the more popular types of bachelorette party that many have today is the bar hop. This is something that is a lot of fun if done right. One of the first considerations would be about who is going to drive. Someone must remain sober. You can always hire a car if you wish, and that is always fun. The bride to be can wear a veil, and everyone can then buy her drinks if they wish. Most hit four or five, if not more, bars on their trip around town. Those that don’t drink won’t like this type of bachelorette party, of course, but they can plan outdoor events like hiking or camping if they wish. Anything goes these days.
When it comes to having a fun bachelorette party, you have to have favors. Some are rather tame, and some are a bit racy, but that is part of the fun. When planning a party for a bachelorette, you can keep their personality in mind. You can find some of these favors in your local party store, but you may find the biggest and best selection if you look around online. Just remember to order early so you have what you need long before the big day comes. You can also find ideas online if you aren’t sure what you want to do, and other great wedding party related items.

Planning a Family Reunion

Planning a Family Reunion the Easy Way
Summertime's almost upon us, and around our house that means it's time for the annual gathering with all relatives near and far! Unfortunately, all the hard work of planning a family reunion has fallen to me this year. With grandparents, four uncles and their four spouses, and eighteen (that's right, eighteen!) cousins, it's a job for an army. But there's only one of me, so I need all the help I can get.
The first hurdle with planning a family reunion has always been where to go. When you've got relations in Colorado, North Carolina, Missouri, Utah, Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Florida, there's really no such thing as a convenient spot! In an effort to keep any one group from having to travel forever, we chose a beautiful spot in the hills of Kentucky.
I was relieved to find that there are actually websites designed to help poor saps like me who are trying to keep six families happy! I found all sorts of information designed to help me plan our event from start to finish. My first great find was free software specifically designed to help in planning a family reunion. I downloaded timetables, checklists of things to bring, ideas for icebreakers and games, and all sorts of random tips for making our gathering special. The program also helped me with important details like invitations, choosing our lodging, deciding on how meals would be served, and coming up with a budget everyone could live with.
I have to admit that sorting out the logistics was tough. But now that we've got our dates and our destination set, I can focus on the fun part! I found special t-shirts online that we could buy pre-made or custom design for every person attending the gathering. The best part is that they're just $5, and the shipping is free. I also found sites where you can order photo buttons, custom invitations, and goofy party favors that have everyone's pictures on them. I didn't think planning a family reunion could actually offer a little retail therapy!
One of the great fringe benefits of being the one in charge of planning a family reunion has been setting up our own special website. It's been a clearinghouse of information for the families, and we've actually had a great opportunity to get to know each other even better as our plans were being formed. It's been a lot of hard work, but now that the big event is almost here I am completely excited, and I think it's going to be a terrific time. Who knew planning a family reunion could actually turn out to be a blast?

Place to Get Married

The Perfect Place to Get Married for All Couples
Marriage is a huge step and a lot of planning has to go into it. You and your loved one will want to make certain that everything about the day is as perfect as possible. This is a special moment and the biggest step in both of your lives so you want it to be as memorable as possible. The woman’s dress has to be breathtaking, the cake and food must be delicious and the music has to get everyone up and dancing, even the shyest of your guests. Although all of these factors are crucial there is one that must be planned first before the rest of the event can even become important. You need to have decided on the perfect place to get married.
Location is the most important thing about planning a wedding. It’s important to have enough space for everyone to fit comfortably. The ideal place to get married is different for all couples. Some really enjoy the traditional wedding in a church followed by a reception in a hall. Others might run away for a weekend and elope on their own. Some couples might fly their entire families out to Hawaii and get married somewhere tropical. Whatever your personality you already have it in your mind the amazing place to get married.
If your parents want something traditional but you would rather have a backyard wedding or something different, compromise may be called for. People can give you suggestions about a place to get married but the end decision is completely up to you and your mate. You two have complete control over it and everyone has to agree. They are the guests and although they would love to be in control, they simply aren’t.
It’s a great idea to make a list of all the possible choices you two envision. Then you should price out each version to see which best suits your budget. If you dreamt of having a wedding on a beach in Fiji but you can’t afford it, you may be able to still enjoy the essence of the ocean by getting married in California. There is always a way to fulfill your dreams if you set your mind to it.
Your wedding and its location should reflect the personalities of you two. It should have the music you like, the decorations you like the best and the tone that you have dreamed of. If you just want something simple, then you can have that. No one is going to be able to tell you what to do when it comes to picking a place to get married. This is likely the most important day of your life so far so it should be exactly the way you want it.

Birthday Party Decoration

Five kid's birthday party decoration ideas that rock!
Birthday parties for adults are usually not as rambunctious in nature, or party decorations for that matter. It seems the older you get, the less you want to make a very big deal of the event. However, kids absolutely love birthday party celebrations. Everything about is exciting, from making out the invitation list to the big day. With such enthusiasm surrounding the event, you want to make the occasion special and the day full of fun and laughter. After you've hosted and attended so many of these, ideas for birthday party decorations may grow stale. Here are five creative ideas that rock. With kids, that's what counts and makes that day live long after the party ends.
1.Go a step beyond the usual streamers hanging on the wall. Kids prefer to have hands-on birthday party decorations over static visuals. They like to play. Get some wooden dowels and use a glue gun to attach various colors and lengths of streamers to the end of the dowel. Make one for each child and stand them up in an umbrella stand or large vase by the door. Hand them out as the kids arrive and watch them fly these faux kites or wave them vigorously in a group hurrah.
2.Edible decorations create another opportunity to do rather than look. For example, you can make a 'bouquet' of lollipops and other candies on sticks. Tie these together with a ribbon and place on the party table at each setting. Attach a small card inscribed with each guest's name.
3.In summer, carry your birthday party decorations to the great outdoors. Decorate the kiddie pool with helium balloons spaced every couple of feet, with wired ribbon all around the perimeter. The kids will love this extra festive touch and it gives you a great photo op, with shots of all the kids in the pool, voluntarily sporting big smiles.
4.Kids are crazy about disposable cameras. Depending on the size of your guest list, this can run into some money, but hey, how many 10th birthdays does your child have? Set a camera at each place setting. They each take their photos and go home with some personal memories they shot themselves.
5.This birthday party decoration idea takes a little preparation, but is a fun do-ahead activity with birthday child participation. This one also serves to heighten anticipation of the birthday event. Make small paper mache candy bowls for each guest, roughly of the same size. When they're dry, set them on a platter, along with some acrylic crafts paint and brushes. Let them go at it, painting their own just the way they see fit. The kids have an activity, a handmade decoration and favor to take home.
Use one or all of these birthday party decoration ideas, or build on them for some fresh ideas of your own. Happy birthdays need one basic ingredient – fun!

Musical Greeting Cards

I have always had a lot of trouble sending out presents on time for friends birthdays. I always used to miss the dates by just a few days. Although for some people it doesn't matter, for others it really makes a big difference. No one wants to hurt one of their friends feelings because of absentmindedness, especially when it is avoidable.
That is why I have become such a fan of musical greeting cards. I send musical cards to most my friends several times a year. I send them for birthdays, holidays, and as a way to cheer people up when they have been away for a long time. There are many different free musical greeting cards that are on the net, so I have my pick of different cards to send. The choices are practically limitless.
Of course, there's nothing that says that you can not create your own musical greeting cards. Not long ago, musical cards were all actually paper cards with FM computer chips in them. They were beyond the means of most people to make, so you had to buy them in stores. Nowadays, however, your typical musical greeting card is just sent over the Internet. You can program in any song you want if you know how to. You can use pictures, animations – your imagination is the limit.
Then again, there are plenty of musical online greeting cards available for your perusal. There are a lot of sites that generate ad revenue by giving away musical greeting cards for free. You don't have to pay anything, and all your friend has to do to support the site is look at an ad while the musical greeting card is loading up on his or her computer. Sometimes, they don't even have to do that. It is amazing the quantity of high quality services you can get for free on the Internet.
Another thing I like about musical greeting cards is the caliber of the greetings. I don't know about you, but I often go into a grocery store and have a lot of trouble finding a holiday greeting card that really suits my style. A lot of them are kind of cheesy and conventional, and few of them are really that imaginative. Somehow, once musical greeting cards got on the Internet the quality improved. Now both the cards you find in-store and online are better than they used to be. All in all, Musical greetings are a great way to brighten up a friend's day.

Trace Family Roots

Help When You Trace Family Roots
Finding out more about your ancestors can be a lot of fun, but many start out in earnest without really knowing where they should look first. You can go online and use many of the great genealogy sites that you can find there, but your search for your roots can be made a lot easier if you know where to do your preliminary searching. When you want to trace family roots, start with the offline sources that you can find first, then move on to the Internet for more information and further details.
The first step when you want to trace family roots would be to talk with your family. You may find that someone has done some of the work for you, and that they have leads they have not had time to follow. Talk with your parents, grandparents, or even your great grandparents if they are still alive. This can give you names and even dates that you can later use as the basis of some of your online searching to trace family roots. These people will not always be here, so don’t let them leave you without finding out what they know. This can bring you closer, and allow them to share even more of their life with you and the generations to come.
Another great source of offline help when you want to trace family roots is old photographs and family Bibles. You should ask some of your older relatives to share their old pictures with you, and to dig out any Bibles they may have. You can find some great information there that even they may have forgotten, or had forgotten to tell you. Look through the Bible for the family tree, and also look through the photos - don’t forget to check the backs for information - to see what you can find. Write it all down so you can then search for more online.
Online sites used to trace family roots are more common and more useful than they have ever been. That is because it has become easier to get large amounts of data online in a quicker manner. That means they can add all that they have, and then you can search to your hearts content for the information that you seek. You can even meet others that are working on this same project. They may have found relatives that are also in your family when they trace family roots, and that means they may have information they can share with you in your quest.
